What? Crafting for neurodivergent queers

On the 20th of May, we’re hosting a gathering for neurodivergent queers with the theme “Craft and Chill” at the Zwille. Whether you’d like to meet other neurodivergent and queer people at the university, exchange everyday tips, or just spend a relaxing evening crafting, you’re warmly invited to join us! We’ve prepared some crafting supplies for you, such as materials for jewelry making and linocut printing, but feel free to bring your own projects, too. Of course, it’s also totally fine if you’d prefer not to craft or if you’d rather do something else.
We invite anyone who identifies as queer and neurodivergent, or who is questioning if that might apply to them. You’re also welcome to bring friends or support persons.
Accessibility: The event will take place in the Zwille on the TU campus. There will be a main room where we’ll spend most of our time and a smaller side room, which we’ll use as an awareness room. An awareness team will be on site (concept available on our website). We’ll aim to maintain a calm atmosphere, with no music. Please feel free to bring any aids (e.g., stim toys, headphones) that you find helpful. We’ll also provide earplugs and a few stim toys at the venue. The entrance to the Zwille has a step about 3 cm high; there is cobblestone pavement in front of it. The neighboring building only has gender-binary restrooms; however, we can unlock a gender-neutral and accessible restroom in the AStA building for you (3 minutes on foot) upon request. Please take a covid-test on the same day, and only come to our event if the test is negative. Unfortunately, we can’t offer childcare. If there’s anything else we can arrange for you, please let us know!
What do we mean by neurodivergent?
Neurodivergence is an umbrella term for people whose perception and thinking deviate from societal norms. Neurodivergence can include conditions such as ADHD, autism, sensory perception differences, learning difficulties, dyscalculia, dyslexia, trauma experiences, and combinations of these. On 30 May, the TU will become the TUNTISH UNIVERSITY! Come along and enjoy shabby, horrible and shaggy Tunte from all over the country take over our stage in this awkward attempt at a Tuntenshow. Grab your sparkling wine (alcoholic or not), your stilettoes (or not), your crush, your friends and stumble through our doors!
But: What is a Tunte? The term Tunte has long been used as an insult for homosexual men in particular. But not with us! The Tunte contradicts everything we are told is beautiful, right and „normal“. A Tunte has no beauty standards, no perfection and, above all, no grace. Whether singing, acting, lip-syncing or comedy: a Tunte is not recognisable by the fact that she moves, but by the fact that she moves something.
The Tuntenshow will take place on 30 May from 19.00 in the Zwille at the TU (Realeaux-Haus, Entrance via Fasanenstr. The Zwille is marked on online Maps). There will be drinks at student prices.
Accessibility: The room is wheelchair-accessible at ground level and smoke-free, we can provide a wheelchair-accessible toilet in the neighbouring building. There will be an all-gender and a FLINTA* toilet. The moderation and many performances will be in German and it will be loud and probably crowded. There will be an awareness team (concept on our website). Unfortunately we cannot offer childcare.
Awareness:
As the Queer Department of the AStA TUB, we want to offer events for queer people at the TU. It is particularly important to us that all people feel comfortable at our events. We do not accept discriminatory behavior, including anti-queer and trans*, racist, antisemitic, classist and ableist behavior. It is important to us that all people who need help see us as a point of contact and that we respond appropriately to incidents.
In order to achieve this, we provide an awareness team at all events that can be recognized by pink high-visibility vests. We do our best to design the awareness team in such a way that everyone feels safe to approach them. The awareness team can also be reached by phone and via Whatsapp, Telegram and Signal (+49 1575 4695822) at larger/more chaotic events. The best way to reach us afterwards is via our email (queer@asta.tu-berlin.de).
The awareness team actively approaches people who it perceives as disruptive or who appear to be in need of support. The person in need of help has the right to decide how the awareness team intervenes. In certain serious cases, however, we feel compelled to step in.
There is an awareness room or area at all events. In the Zwille this is directly in the building, in EB104 you have to walk a few minutes to the room of our Collective. People in need may use this room to calm down and recover. There we provide a blanket, water, stimming toys, food, tea, and a first aid kit.
We do not want drugs to be consumed at our events. Alcohol in reasonable quantities is the only exception. Smoking is generally only permitted outside, sometimes in certain smoking areas outside.
We reserve the right to expel people who behave unacceptably from the event.
