Genderneutral Toilets!
There’s news regarding the gender-neutral toilets!
On October 1st, the university’s executive board decided how to proceed with the implementation of gender-neutral toilets. Here is a summary of the most important points from the resolution:
By 2027, every building will have at least one toilet for all genders (in the main building, on every second floor).
In new buildings, 20% of the toilets are to be gender-neutral. During renovations, up to 20% are to be converted as well.
By 2027, each sports facility of the university’s sports department will have a shower and changing room for all genders.
We are happy that there is finally a decision regarding gender-neutral toilets. However, we believe that the number of toilets planned is far too few and the implementation is far too slow. It doesn’t take three years to change a few toilet signs!
Students of TU Berlin can view the full resolution here: https://www.tu.berlin/pa/praesidiumsbeschluesse (Although the page states „login only for staff,“ it works with student login credentials as well).

Changes regarding University Sports
There have been a few changes at TU Berlin’s university sports center that affect queer people.
1. there are now four gender-neutral toilets in the sports facility in Dovestraße, which are only labeled „WC“
2. there will soon be gender-neutral changing rooms in sports room H4032 (main building). There is a survey on display asking students how the situation there should best be resolved. So please answer the survey if you have any ideas on how this could be implemented
3. it is planned to install individual cubicles in as many shared changing rooms and showers as possible
4. on the university sports website you will now find equal opportunities representatives who you can also contact in the event of discrimination against queer people
5. the TU gym is looking for a better solution to assign door codes for the changing rooms
6. there are more and more FLINTA or LGBTQIA+ courses in the martial arts area, so be sure to check out the website to see what’s on offer
We are of course happy about these changes and they are definitely a step in the right direction. At the same time we want to emphasize that many queer people continue to be excluded from university sports offers, for example because there are no gender-neutral changing rooms or because trainers are not sufficiently sensitized. We are still looking for improvements!
We hope that these changes will improve your experiences in university sports. Feel free to get in touch with us if you have anything else to tell us about university sports
