Job advertisement Student Ticket Office
We are looking for a new collective member for the software development and administration of the and administration of the office web apps of the semester ticket office of the AStA of the TU Berlin.
What is the semester ticket office?
The semester ticket office is an institution of the constituted student body. The main task of the semester ticket office is the administration of the social fund, from which subsidies for the semester ticket are paid out. We also exempt students from the obligation to pay the semester ticket fee if, for example, they are not in Berlin for study reasons or cannot use the ticket for another recognised reason in accordance with the semester ticket statutes.
What is to be done?
You would effectively be entering an ongoing rewrite process. In the last few years, we have prepared quite a lot to rewrite the three Ruby on Rails apps that we still have. We started doing that in Rust. In terms of language and design, you could also bring a lot to the table and decide for yourself – depending on how early you start. At the same time, there are always smaller maintenance tasks. Most of the time, you only need to change a few entries in our database. A rewrite takes time and it is probably not clear from the beginning which system you are replacing, so it would be good if you could get along with our ‘legacy’ apps at the beginning.
The following skills are desirable:
- Basic knowledge of using terminal and git.
- Experience in programming. Preferably in web development, especially Rust and or Ruby (on Rails)
- Independent participation in the semester ticket office collective and in the AStA
- Ability to work in a team, social skills, reliability
We are looking for politically committed people and would be delighted if you could get involved in the AStA beyond your job,
take part in plenary sessions and support the work of the political departments.
The job offers:
- A working time of 41 hours per month
- An hourly wage of 17.74 euros
- A contract term of 2 years with the option to extend if desired
- A self-organised environment with different people who all support the AStA project together.
We particularly encourage applications from people who are
- are female, inter* and/or trans*, agender or non-binary;
- are lesbian, gay or bisexual and/or queer;
- have to earn their own living;
- care for relatives, especially single parents;
- without a German passport, (post-)migrant people;
- BIPoC and Jewish women:Jews and/or people who experience racist and/or anti-Semitic discrimination;
- are affected by classism and/or are first-generation students;
